Check out this AP interview with Hillary about her recent health care proposal http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070918/ap_on_el_pr/clinton_ap_interview_6. While I respect the fact that she has apparently thought out a fully formed plan, the following quotes scare me a little:
When asked about how to enforce participation into the system, she said "At this point, we don't have anything punitive that we have proposed[.]" The "At this point" is what concerns me. Along the same lines she said "you have to show proof to your employer that you're insured as a part of the job interview — like when your kid goes to school and has to show proof of vaccination" This kind of talk makes by libertarian hackles go up.
I worry that in their zeal to provide universal coverage reform advocates will fail to identify the costs (monetary and nonmonetary) that will be associated with the plan. The result being that those of us who presently have health care coverage (a solid majority of Americans) will be worse off afterwards.
As P.J. O'Rourke said "If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free."
